there is probably only one perk to living within walking distance to a funeral home and church (like we do). when the Marines come to present a flag at a funeral you have the opportunity to watch them practice in front of your house and watch them present and play taps (from a distance) in front of the church. impromptu respect of flag and veterans learning session.
this partly makes up for the constant supply of cars parking in front of our house.
readying up the house i notice a Marine folding the flag directly across the street from us so i call p down and we watch them practice from the window and we discuss why they were doing what they were doing and noticed how respectfully they act to the flag, even in practice. then they walked to the church and p and i went outside to hear the trumpet and watch the presentation. thirty minutes later the Marines were still standing ready outside the church and we were running late for our errands. so i gave up and we went inside to eat our pb&j. wouldn't you know i hear the last high notes of the trumpet a minute after we go inside. so we rushed outside to see the last of the presentation and say hello and thank you as they walked to their car.
it was worth being late for.
