day 6 part 3: the submarine memorial

a little tired out from the beach
somewhere on the old navy base
we were going to visit the 'hunley' first
but tours were only available on weekends
this plaque is a listing of the US Fleet of ballistic submarines that served during the Cold War.
the USS James Monroe SSBN is a sub my dad served on
"They went to sea loaded and capable of initiating a nuclear holocaust
while charged with the solemn responsibility of preventing one"
 - quote from one of the plaques
this might be when my dad was telling bo
about when he almost fell off the sub deck
memorial is meant to look like a sub in the water.  it's really cool.
we were going to go visit the aircraft carrier museum/memorial near by but we were rejected at the gate
due to a big wig meeting going on on the ship.
we got to see some pretty amazing helicopters from the car though.
so we left and had some dinner
