accidents will happen

did you know that p's top lip was attached to her gum rather close to her teeth?  actually all the way to that gap in her front two teeth.
not any more.
it would seem when you run as fast as you can at a swing with the intention of doing a flying superman (swing on your belly) there is a small chance of taking too large a running start, accumulating too much momentum, and hitting the swing with your torso only to flip forward onto the ground face first.
i had the privilege of being a spectator of the whole incident.
of course i was working on a birthday present project and was sitting on the ground with a ton of stuff on my lap, including our computer.
carefully getting a lap tray full of kids books and laptops off of oneself with trembling hands without breaking anything isn't easy...  i felt it was taking an eternity to get myself off of the ground.
meanwhile,
the addition of insult to injury would be the swing coming back and hitting her in the head while she's sitting and crying.

i'm slightly amazed that i was able to act calm.
i thought she might have seriously injured back, or neck.
then i saw all the blood and i thought she bit through her tongue or lip.
after i got a dessert sized portion of dirt and grass out of her mouth, carried her inside, and she repeatedly rinsed i realized that she had severed the piece of skin connecting her lip and her mouth
i forget what the dr. called it.
nothing to be done.  nothing to be fixed.
i can't imagine what it felt like because i believe it was the impact that did it.
thanking the Lord that
she didn't seriously injure her neck, back, or teeth, or bite through her tongue.
i admit that i did selfishly think: 'i hope this doesn't change her smile' but i can't dwell on that.
Thank you Lord for protecting our baby.

and thank you for her willingness to get back on that swing and try again.
