a play

a production of the velveteen rabbit came to town and p and i went.
it was so cute and lovely and b.y.o.b.  bring your own bunny.
of course p managed to get bunny ears before the production.  the only two children there who received them because the other hundreds of children weren't brazen enough to shout 'excuse me, where did you get bunny ears?' to the lady who happened to be introducing the whole shebang.
next thing i know the miss introduction lady is saying 'how cute' and disappearing around the corner to get bunny ears.
the whole thing was really nice and at one moment, near the end, p turned to me and said 'he can have my bunny so he won't be sad about his bunny'.
awww, how cute.
then we left the theater and entered the world of crafts, bathroom breaks, children everywhere....
and the cuteness ended.... the monster came out.
that's right.  this sweet little blond started hopping (like a bunny) from station to station.  pushing past people.  jipping in line.  NOT listening to her mother.  you know, that child.
mortifying.
and between coats, purses, misbehaved blond girls, and crowds.... this is the best i could do.
and finally it got to the point where we left before we got our face painted.
oh yes, there was a very long faced baby in the car giving herself her own lecture on disobedience to mommy equals no face painting.
and i was thanking my lucky stars she didn't spill punch on any of the $900 shoes i saw walking around the place.
